Synchrotron FAME Team

Associated research team FAME, French Absorption Spectroscopy Beamline in Material and Environmental Sciences & FAME-UHD, French Absorption Spectroscopy Beamline in Material and Environmental Sciences – Ultra High Dilution, at the ESRF, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility, and attached to Institut Néel.

FAME is dedicated to X-ray absorption spectroscopy. FAME covers a wide variety of scientific fields (materials science, biophysics, chemistry) but focuses mainly in geochemical sciences where, in most cases, the probed elements are highly diluted.
FAME-UHD is dedicated to high energy resolution fluorescence detected x-ray absorption spectroscopy (HERFD-XAS) for structural investigation of ultra-diluted samples. The key element of the beamline is thus a crystal analyser spectrometer, which enables XANES analyses at concentrations as low as 1ppm and EXAFS at 10ppm.

SigmaPhy, Signal-Images-Physique Team

Associated research team of the Gipsa-Lab, laboratoire Grenoble Images Parole Signal Automatique

The Signal-Images-Physics (SigmaPhy) team directs its research towards signal and image processing and wave physics for natural environments (oceanic, terrestrial and underground environments) characterization and surveillance.
Scientific topics:
 Underwater acoustics: active and passive observing, localization (source/target) in complex environment;
 Optical and/or high resolution (special and spectral) radar remote sensing (image processing);
 Transient signal imagery: seismic imagery, ultrasonic signals, fluorescence signals.

Environnements Team

Associated research team of the Pacte laboratory - Social sciences research center

The Environnements team is an original experience of federating social scientists around environmental issues. It brings together 15 researchers crossing a variety of approaches from geography, planning, sociology, philosophy, economics, political science and anthropology.

Five key words identify the major socio-environmental dynamics studied:
 adaptation: the evolution of lifestyles in the face of global changes, at different spatial and temporal scales, taken from the perspective of practices (daily, tourism, events ...),
 biodiversity: the governance of living things studied through animal spatialities, human - animal relationships and the hybridization of expert and secular knowledge,
 energy: contemporary energy transition policies, the configuration of new energy resources and the territorial and landscape reconstructions they generate,
 risks: flood, seismic and air pollution risks are studied, with an emphasis on social responses to natural phenomena,
 landscape: environmental and landscape dynamics in the long term (trajectories, bifurcations, inertia).

The analysis of these socio-environmental dynamics (short / long time, human / nonhuman) make the Environments team a critical reflection on key concepts (temporality, adaptation, transition, vulnerability, innovation).

LaME, LAsers, Molecules and Environment Team

Associated research team of the LIphy, Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Physique - Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Physics

The LAME team has a long tradition in the innovation and development of techniques for high sensitivity absorption spectroscopy, motivated by applications ranging from the spectroscopic characterization of extremely weak transitions in molecules of atmospheric or planetological interest, to the quantification of trace concentrations and isotopic ratios in gas samples for environemental, geophysical and medical applications.
