In-situ monitoring of carbonate speciation during brine CO2 percolation in core samples.

Raman spectroscopy is a powerful time-resolved technique for reaction monitoring in aqueous, organic and multi-phasic media at high pressure and temperature. The present project proposes the coupling of in situ Raman spectrometry with flow-through reaction cell in order to monitoring the carbonate species (C02(aq), C03-2, HC03- and H2C03°) during interactions between a reactive fluid, C02 and a reservoir rock (200°C, 300 bar, 180g/l of salt). Raman spectrometry allows a realistic estimation of the in-situ pH, which is not accessible, to our knowledge, by other analytical techniques under the conditions of our experiments. The pH temporal variations in the system are due to C02 injection and dissolution/precipitation of mineralis in core samples. OSUG@2020 contributes to fund (1/3) the Raman spectrometer.
